Keno was created in 200 BC by the Chinese army leader, Cheung Leung who utilized keno as a finance resource for his declining army. The city of Cheung was waging a battle, and after awhile of war time appeared to be facing national famine with the dramatic decrease in supplies. Cheung Leung needed to come up with a fast fix for the financial disaster and to create income for his military. He, as it follows invented the game we now know as keno and it was a great success.

Keno used to be well-known as the White Pigeon Game, since the winning numbers were broadcast by pigeons from bigger cities to the lesser villages. The lottery ‘Keno’ was brought to America in the 19th century by Chinese expatriates who came to the States to work. In those times, Keno was played with 120 numbers.

Today, Keno is most often bet on with just 80 numbers in almost all of American brick and mortar casinos as well as net casinos. Keno is commonly played today because of the relaxed nature of playing the game and the basic fact that there are little expertise required to play Keno. Despite the reality that the chances of getting a win are horrible, there is constantly the hope that you might win quite large with a tiny gaming investment.

Keno is played with 80 numbers with 20 numbers picked each round. Enthusiasts of Keno can pick from two to ten numbers and bet on them, as much or as little as they are able to. The pay out of Keno is according to the wagers made and the roll out of matching numbers.

Keno grew in popularity in the US near the end of the 1800’s when the Chinese characters were changed with more familiar, American numbers. Lotteries were not covered under the legalization of wagering in Nevada State in 1931. The casinos renamed the ‘Chinese lotto’ to ‘horse race keno’ utilizing the concept that the numbers are horses and you are looking for your horses to come in. When a law passed that taxed off track wagering, the casinos quickly adjusted the name to ‘Keno’.
